December 2017 Pop Up Shops

December 2017 Pop Up Shops

Friday, December 1st, 4-7pm

Little Button Craft will host a unique pop-up event featuring local Fairport based maker Ashley Monney on Friday, December 1st from 4-7pm .

Cire D'abeille Skincare Products started as a DYI by Ashley Monney in May 2016. She wanted to create a lip balm that was free of parabens, artificial colors, and chemicals. Her lip balms contain naturally based ingredients. Cire d'Abeille has been recognized by the Coalition for Consumer Information (Leaping Bunny) as cruelty-free. Her products have never, nor will ever, be tested on animals.

After her friends, co-workers and family tried the prototype of lip balm, they encouraged her to make more and start selling them at local businesses. Monney partners with local businesses by using their products in her lip balms. She uses beeswax and honey from local Upstate NY beekeepers. Monney works with Union Place Coffee Roasters, Black Button Distilling, Casa Larga Winery, The Winery at Marim Manor, Belhurst Castle and Winery, Deer Run Winery, 810 Ciderworks, OSB Ciderworks, Doce Cupcakery, The Waffle Factory, as well as other wineries from western upstate New York.

Cire d'Abeille Skin Care products has branched out from lip balms, to also produce sugar scrubs, body lotions, and salt soaks.

Thursday, December 7th, 3-7pm - La Belle Maison Pop Up Shop
My name is Meghan Brown Estaque, I am a sewist, a wife of a frenchmen, a mother, and a New Englander living in the greater Rochester area since 2006. I am also product of 2 artists, growing up I was surrounded by art and color. I have always been creative and artistic. My father would give me huge sheets of fine art grade watercolor paper and watercolors, acrylics, or oil pastels and away I went. Usually it was nothing more than moving and blending colors around the paper. I was also raised in a “waste not, want not” attitude. In high school I found this very small velvet braided rug at our tiny church thrift store. I loved it. It came to art school with me and I cherished it for a very long time.
In 2008 I remembered my little velvet table rug. I had a lot of old linens that were very loved and I hadn’t had the heart to part with, hoping that I could make them into something “new” at some point. Inspiration struck, I should make my own little table rug! I ripped and braided and then I laced it together like I remembered my mother showing me when I was little. It was hard, it was tedious and it hurt my fingers. After frustration and failure I got my sewing machine out and said the heck with it, I am going to make this work! And work it did!
In the years since I have upgraded my sewing machine, my threads, and my needles. But one of my supplies has stayed exactly the same, my materials. 100% of my fabrics are reclaimed. I use a variety of textiles, most of what I use are bed sheets, but I use just about any kind of cotton and cotton blend broadcloth that I can get my hands on. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that I have saved so much fabric from going into a landfill, as well as making something that is so beautiful and extremely useful! My braided rugs and table mats can be thrown right into the washing machine and are virtually indestructible. I am always trying to improve my art and I am excited to see what the future has in store for me.

Thursday, December 14th 3-7pm - Victoria Connors Felt Art Pop Up Shop
The process
Needle felting is the process of taking wool and slight stabbing it using felting needles to make felt. I
first lay down the dyed wool into the design I want over a piece of felt. Then with the felting needles, I
began to slightly stab and push the wool down in the felt, which flattens it.

About me
I have always enjoyed art and the process of creating. I was
first introduced to fiber arts and needle felting in June 2014,
while volunteering at the Creative Wellness Center in
Rochester, NY. While I was there I saw a demonstration that
inspired me and I soon began creating my own needle felt
paintings. My fiber art creations combine the skills I've
learned from oil landscape painting and the techniques I
learned creating felt hats. These different techniques have led
me to needle felting as a painting medium that combines
texture in 2D and 3D dimensional forms, giving my arts its
own unique appearance.

My inspirations
My inspirations are the landscapes that I see in my travels – both my local community of the Finger
Lakes region as well as throughout the United States and abroad. My felt paintings represent scenes
from the beautiful environment I encounter as I explore the world.
All the materials I use are from local sheep and alpaca farms in the Finger Lakes!

Sunday, December 17th 11am-4pm - Owl Post Lettering Pop Up Shop

I'm a lefty and the lady behind Owl Post Lettering, a small shop based in Rochester, NY, offering calligraphy services, thoughtful gifts, and workshops in lettering and modern calligraphy.

I love words. I love letters. I have always loved the aesthetic of words and sentences and paragraphs. I was the kid in high school painting song lyrics on her ceiling. But after a failed middle-school attempt with a calligraphy kit, I assumed you had to be a "real artist" or some kind of superhero to make art with letters. It turns out, you don't have to be!

Anyone can try modern calligraphy! You can imagine my delight when I realized regular people could do this, and what's more, that I really enjoyed it! That was April 2016, and   I have been practicing and making lettering art ever since.

This has already been such an amazing and fun journey. Lettering and calligraphy are so centering for me, and I feel so lucky that it found me. One of my favorite parts is that I can use it to make gifts! Thoughtful gifts are one of my love languages! I would love to make something special for you or your loved ones. Hit me up! And thanks for checking out Owl Post Lettering!

KES is an acronym for Katherine, Eliza (a nickname for Lisa), and Susan, for the woman in my life who provide constant support and inspiration for my work, and in signing my work with their names, allows a tribute for all of they've done.
My work deals strongly with story telling through the illustrative interactions of characters within a frame, along with explosive color to capture the essence of a moment that stems from real life inspiration.
