Motivational, funny, snarky messages combined with amazing photographs? That’s the work of Jamie Redmond, of The Memorable Image! Our featured artist for November 2018!
About Jamie:
“There has never been a time in my life that stories and storytelling weren’t the most important thing. Well, stories… and animals, AND cake. But if I had to pick just one for the rest of my life I’d pick stories.
As a kid, I was never without a book in my hand or a story in my head. As I grew up and into the world, stories have fueled my imagination, inspired my self-confidence, pushed me to travel to distant lands, and encouraged me to pursue my artistic dreams so I could tell my own stories. They taught me life lessons and made sure I approached both the good and the absurdly bad in life with a healthy dose of humor.
When I was a kid, let's say around 8, if you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would have spun you a fantastical tale. I would have told you of all the stories I wanted to write about all the possible lives there were to live.I wanted to be surrounded by animals whose worlds seemed so much simpler and grander than our own, and I would have liked to have access to good cake (even as a kid I took my baked goods very seriously. I grew up in a bakery so that’s probably equal parts nature and nurture.)
It’s funny how our dreams come back to us, in ways that are different than we imagined but no less real. I’ve been lucky to find myself living that dream that I once had as little girl; a dream that I was told was unrealistic, has become entirely possible in The Animal Tales.”
About Jamie’s Work:
“The Animal Tales series focuses on relatable life lessons and frustrations, by pairing witty words of wisdom with imaginative photographs of an unseen world within our own. The series has a unique, nostalgic, handcrafted feel. All of the Tales are created in my Upstate, NY studio. From start to finish these stories are handcrafted: I shape these character’s lives and adventures, I build the sets, do all the photography and writing. I even bake most of the cakes.
The Animal Tales make people laugh and share in both life’s frustrations and celebrations. They are meant to help us to preserve lessons in our own lives that we never want to forget, but often need reminding of. They keep us company in our quiet moments, offer camaraderie in our lonely ones, provide excitement in the doldrums, and give us reason to laugh at the absurdity. Life isn’t always easy or grand, but both the good and the bad should be acknowledged and either celebrated or supported. Sometimes we need to face life with both wit and wisdom.
The Animal Tales may mean different things to different people but are always greeted with laughter.”
