MALIYA TRAVERS CRUMB OF MTC POTTERY

Maliya is a ceramic artist and Illustrator living in Rochester, NY. She mostly makes pottery but her work is informed by her background in illustration.

She likes to think of clay as a different kind of canvas, and works primarily with graphic black and white painting. She gravitates toward simpler forms which she paints in a whimsical style with cats and other creatures. She thinks of functional pottery as a unique opportunity for a piece of fine are to form a personal relationship with someone. It is something that is loved and held, that wears with time and becomes part of a person's routine. Her hope is that her art tells the story of where magic intersects with everyday life.
