July 2024 Featured Artist - Allegra Tennis of Alliteration Artwork

I’m Allegra Tennis, a queer fabric artist originally from Madison, Wisconsin. I started Alliteration Artworks in 2022, with huge support and encouragement from my spouse, Alison, and indifference from our cat, Matrim.

Little Button Craft was the first place I sold Alliteration Artworks art in, so it holds a special place in my heart. I am absolutely thrilled to be featured this July, especially since July is Rochester’s Pride Month!

My mother owns a needlework store in Wisconsin, and my grandmother also worked there. Consequently, I learned to use needle and thread when I was 5. My father is a watercolor and portrait artist, and some of my best childhood memories are “helping” him at his art fairs.

Fabric art, and quilting in particular, represents so much more than material to me. It represents family, connection, and community. I love being able to express myself through this “traditional” medium and all that it represents.
